In honor of National Suicide Prevention and Recovery Month, Communities for Youth joined Connection is the Cure on Saturday, September 7th, at Kleiner Park for a fundraising event for suicide prevention and recovery. This event featured a Battle of the Bands, food trucks, resource booths, a pickleball tournament, and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament!
Connection is the Cure aims to normalize and encourage ongoing conversations about mental health, addiction recovery, and suicide prevention in homes, schools, churches, workplaces, locker rooms, and throughout the community.
Recent Communities for Youth data found that a lack of meaningful social connections is one of the main drivers of depressive symptoms for youth in Boise. This event focused specifically on the importance of social connection for mental health, and funds raised at the event will support the creation of youth social connection resources.
At this event, Communities for Youth provided journals for attendees to create social maps to understand their current social connections, and also shared ways to build social connections.
The Communities for Youth Community Engagement Coordinator, Andrea Hill, also presented at the event and emphasized the importance of social connections for supporting youth mental health.
