Teen Takeover is going country on Saturday, October 12, from 7 to 9 PM.
What is teen takeover?
Teen Takeover is for high schoolers ages 13 to 18 who want to connect and have wholesome fun. With activities ranging from creative and downright ridiculous to serious and reflective, there’s something for everyone. The only serious rule is that no parents are allowed—although JUMP staff and other adults will be there. Parents can stay in the “parent daycare” at the bottom floor of JUMP where they can play games and meet other teen parents or do their own thing.
Teen Takeovers are an important part of the Communities for Youth Boise Initiative's goal to support meaningful connection opportunities for Boise youth. Recent data found that a lack of social connections was one of the main drivers of depressive symptoms in Boise youth. Community partners and collaborators have come together to focus on a Let's Connect Boise campaign aimed at building connections for youth. As a key collaborator with this initiative, JUMP continues to host Teen Takeovers, providing a space for teens to come together.
JUMP started hosting teen-only events in 2024 as part of their regular community schedule. After several successful and engaging events, they realized they were on to something. In a world where people primarily connect digitally—through their phones and video—teens are fighting for real, in-person connections. Teen takeover is the place for that. Recognizing the opportunity, JUMP brought in collaborators from Communities for Youth and St. Luke’s Health System as well as other educational and program providers to create a safe, educational place for teens to learn new skills, from dance to emotional well-being.
At the event on October 12, teens are encouraged to dress in Western-themed clothing since they will learn line dancing; courtesy of Dirt Road Dance Company; have a chance to ride a mechanical bull; enjoy drinks at the alcohol-free, Saloon-themed refreshments area; and more.
