Partners with the Boise Initiative met with JUMP in early August to discuss activation opportunities for upcoming Teen Takeovers and ways the community can come together to encourage youth social connection. Recent data from Boise youth showed that lack of meaningful connections is one of the main drivers of depressive symptoms.
Teen Takeovers are teen-only events meant to alleviate feelings of anxiety and social isolation in local youth. They were started by JUMP in response to a shortage of free spaces and opportunities for teens to connect and create new friendships outside of school.
Boise Initiative partners are working with JUMP to help organize the next Teen Takeover, which will take place on October 12. Partners also met with JUMP to discuss how other organizations can host their own Teen Takeovers or other youth-focused events that can help build youth social connection.
If you are interested in learning how you and/or your organization can help with the upcoming Teen Takeover, or interested in hosting your own Teen Takeover but would like to leverage already existing tools, contact Matthew Conte at teentakeover@jumpboise.org.
If you and/or your organization are interested in hosting other youth-focused events or creating youth-focused spaces for safe, engaging and fun activities for young people to build connections, but you are needing assistance in making it happen, please email our St. Luke’s partners at communityhealth@slhs.org.
